Guilt

As a child, I learned

That "worthy" people suffered when they made mistakes.

So in a world where I controlled nothing

But my own thoughts,

I sharpened my thoughts into instruments of torture,

Bent on ensuring my own suffering,

And by and by,

My errors lay mangled,

Alongside my self-worth.
