I call these "one word short stories". It's a great wrtiting exercise for when you feel out of practice. Here is your one word: STAIRCASE. Go anywhere with this, as long as it includes a staircase.

The Mansion On Top Of The Hill:

Centuries ago, there stood a 2 story mansion on top of a hill. No one lived there, it was said to be haunted. One day, I decided to be brave and enter it. I climbed up the hill, gravity pushing against me as if to say, “Don’t do it, Shannon.” Once I got to the front door, I knocked on the it. Eerily enough, the wind caused the door to open, creaking as it did. I slowly entered the house and the floorboard creeked creepily. I stood in what I believed to be the foyer of the house. In front of me were two grand staircases and paintings of who I believed to be the old owners of the house. Mr. And Mrs. Colbstory. They were aristocrats. I slowly made my way towards the dusty, wooden staircase and began to climb up. I heard noises behind me and a chill went up my spine. I kept walking and when I got to the top, there were 11 doors. I slowly peeked inside each one, and found there to be nothing but bookshelves and bookshelves of old books. I finally got to the door at the end of the hall, "DO NOT ENTER" was a sign on the door. Bravely, I entered and once I got in, I screamed.

There stood, Mr. and Mrs. Colbstory's skeletons, smiling back at me.
