Tiger and Rock

When the world was new, Tiger was known amung the animals for its shining bright eyes. Any who looked straight into Tiger's gaze would find themselves unable to see. Tiger was miserable. No one wanted to be friennds with someone who could blind with a look! So, Tiger went searching for someone to fix his eyes. He first asked Sun. "Oh Sun, with your glorious hot rays, can you fix my eyes?"

Sun responded, "Why Tiger, what is wrong with them?"

"My eyes are so bright, no one will come near! Surely you, with your brilliant shine, could help me?"

"I cannot. Perhaps Sky could give you what you need." And thus Tiger went from place to place, asking earth and grass and cloud alike. Every time, the answer was the same. No.

Finally, Tiger came across Rock, dull and brown. " Oh Rock, can you take the shine from my eyes?"

"Tiger, such shine is a gift! I have been wishing for such shine for as long as I have been. I would love to help you!"

Tiger was overjoyed. " Oh Rock, I will do anything!"

"Simply swear to Mother Earth that your eye's shine belongs to Rock, and only Rock." Rock instructed gleefully. And so Tiger did, and it was done.

Rock, once a dull muddy brown, now gleamed gold. Tiger jumped and jumped, running back to the animals to show off his new eyes.

"Tiger! What has happened to your eyes?" Porkupine questioned.

"I have gotten rid of their shine! I shall blind no more!"

"You fool! You look so dull and grey now - a more boring creature I have never seen!"

And thus Tiger sulked off, to the laughter of the animals.

"Rock, you tricked me!" Tiger growled.

"No," Rock answered. "I gave you exactly want you wanted."

And Tiger bowed his head, defeated.

To this day, Rock is still known as Tiger's Eye.
