i'm in a large open field

distantly, i hear people screaming

not in terror or fear

not in delight or ecstasy either

i spin

and spin

the surrounding forest trees

grow taller

closer

more daunting

more menacing

the screams are in terror

i remind myself that i have legs

and i can run if i'd like

but my feet root themselves to the ground

as the once large open field

gets smaller and smaller

the trees get nearer
