The Floating Hand

Walking at the edge of that deep lake

Something told me this was a big mistake

Yet my feet kept moving, telling me to go ahead

Crunching leaves, snapping twigs as I tread.

What am I doing? Why am I here?

It itself is a mystery, I fear

Everyone says the lake is haunted to the core

It's proof of that, that I'm looking for.

The garden seems fine, unremarkable and plain

Would my entire trip here really go in vain?

"Might as well get some water", I kneeled near the lake

It was then that the water began at shake.

The full moon came out, the surface of the water shone

I couldn't help wishing I hadn't come alone

As quickly as they'd started, the vibrations came to a halt

The moon hid again, as if it was its fault.

"Who goes there?" A raspy voice suddenly choked out

And millions of voices began to scream and shout

I couldn't move, I was glued to the land in fright

A hand pulled me back, devouring me in the night.

Ah, but it doesn't end here you see

The frightening part is

The hand had no body.
