a bean sprouted instead of a stalk

my gait, my walk, I was new

but never quite right, so you

changed me by name and

admired my existence

when others reduced themselves

to shame and confusion. I could sense

the questions floating around right

next to my head, like flies attracted to

the sweet sugar that others saw

was salt. I wasn't sure what it was,

perhaps a mixture of skittles

and m&ms in only one bowl...

no wonder people were afraid of me

I wasn't what they expected

and I never will be anything

but a miracle in my own body.

when I danced I saw myself

a reflection that couldn't be seen

with even a spider's eyes.

the web was made of a material

I could not call home, so I

built my own. A body not mine

would still be mine, and over time

I grow to love it inch

by inch.
