The Goblin Bird

Once upon a time

Or twice, mayhap

The goblin babe

Arose from her nap.

Yellow eyes

And hot pink hair

Made her such

Only mom would care.

Green-tinged skin

Red-clawed feet

Not too many

Would find her sweet.

Until, one day

To Mom's dismay

A scary sound

She heard.

To babe's delight

And goblin fright

Babe sang like a bird!

Her tweets and trills

Were loud, and carried.

Cotton-stuffed ears

Left goblins harried.

The Goblin King

Did speak to Mom

His grumbles

Shook the timber.

He looked around

Until he found

Babe singing

Momma whimpered.

What is this?

Do my ears deceive?

Make her hush!

Give us reprieve!

Mom did shrug

And held babe tight.

"Can't stop her now

Try as I might!"

"Pack your bags

Your house,

And stuff.

You're moving tonight.

Enough is enough!"

As the king

Turned to depart

A shadow of wings

Gave him a start!

He tried to run

But was too late

The bird swooped down

And out the gate!

The goblin mass

Stood in shock

The bird and King

Within the flock.

A rescue team

Was soon dispatched

But once they left

They were attacked!

They tried again

But still no luck

The birds kept watch

And quickly struck!

Babe looked around

Everyone was sad.

Asked her Mom

What was bad.

"Bird took the King!"

Poor Mom wailed

"Can't get him back."

And then she paled.

Babe looked up

"Oh Momma dear,

I see it clear.

I speak bird

I'm sure you heard!"

Mom looked down

And with a frown,

"You speak like us?

So why the fuss?

Bird-talk hurts!"

Momma burst.

Babe just smiled

Eyes aglow

"Ready Momma?

Shall we go?"

Babe in stroller

Mom pushing slowly.

Babe bird-singing

Mom slouching lowly.

Found the King

Sitting grumpy

The giant bird

Big and lumpy.

Babe looked up

And asked bird, "Why?

You took our King

Without goodbye."

The King got mad,

But then sat down.

The bird squawked warning.

The King just frowned.

The bird was worried

She heard the yearning.

But babe just told her

"I was learning."

"Bird-talk is fun

But now I'm tired.

Can we all go home?

Mom, me and Sire?"

The bird ruffled feathers

As pink as babe's hair

Turned to King

With a yellow-eyed stare.

"You all may go

With this beautiful child

Because of her

We won't go wild."

The giant bird

Jumped in the air

And disappeared

From sight.

Now left alone

To walk on home

Mom, King and babe

Alight.

The End.
