Poetry contest. Twenty word minimum. First place will be decided based on the poem, of course, though the number of comments posted by others will be factored in (critiques or praise, no one word or three word quickies) and those who comment should "like" it to keep the judges looking for updated reads. Write a poem about anything. Aim for the gut. Winner gets $100.

Waiting in the Dark

There are no boundaries

in the dark.

Just endless

darkness.

The darkness that

makes you look inside

yourself and wonder

why you were chosen.

Chosen to suffer in

silence because you can't tell anyone your pain.

Even if you try they

just look at at you and not understand.

So you have to wait

for someone who

will understand.

But the wait is long.

You pretend to be

"normal" but it's

not as easy as it seems.

You pretend to

be enlightened.

But life doesn't

work that way.

You try and try anyway.

Until you think

the darkness is all that

understands you.

Trying to prove the

darkness wrong you try

to walk into the

light, but the

darkness is all you know.

All you need is

someone to help

you step into the light.

To find the courage

inside yourself.

And maybe one day

you will walk into

the light of your

own happiness

and understanding.

But until then

all you can do is wait

and build up the

courage to be yourself.

To let yourself be happy.

But until then you wait.

And wait.

And wait.
