The Little Things

I can't tell you what it means to cherish someone

so much that it hurts

I can't tell you what it means that you will follow them

to the ends of the earth

But,

I can tell you what it means to hold someone close

to love them and listen

and want to be near them,

to hold them and hear them

and see the smile they make when the world is just right

It's terrifying in its comfort

It's monstrous in its smallness

It's the little things that make up the big

and you fall deeper and deeper

until you can't see for all the light.
