Goodnight, my Butterfly

Darkness overtakes you. Not the kind that has settled over the forest outside, chasing the sun away. This was a different darkness, a calming and peaceful one. In which realities are blurred by imagination-filled realms that only you know, and only you can take part of.

Eyelids closed, breathing slowed, the sounds of night fade away as the memories of day dissipate. You hear a soft voice next to your ear, just before you lose yourself to that peaceful tranquility that is unconsciousness.

"Goodnight, my Butterfly," it whispers.

And you, now nearly gone to the land of dreams and sleep, feel the tiniest of smiles spread across your lips. You were safe and sound, in your mothers arms, and another night of pleasant dreams - not frightening nightmares - would surely pass you by...
