The Eye of the Beholder

I stand in the mirror and see my 62-year-old body.

It’s had better days, believe me.

Two scars on my breast from lumpectomy’s

Thank God, there was no cancer.

On my thigh a long scar where skin was harvested,

To stop a spinal cord leak

After three failed spinal tumor operations.

My saggy belly, the result of two children

And many, many pieces of chocolate.

I think to myself, I am a warrior

I am a survivor, and I am glad that I got old.
