How do I love thee? Let me count 14 ways

Expressing love every day should be the thing, but once a year will do

with heart-shaped gifts or flowers (though chocolates are good, too);

my preference is stuffed animals, I’ve got 14 on my bed

jewelry is nice, it’s true, (but I’d like Elmo instead).

Unexpected Valentine’s Day calls to and from family

warm everybody’s heart and are always a treat.

Taking a walk by our favorite lake, hand and hand we go

regardless of the weather, rain, sleet or snow;

dinner with my loved one is the best thing for me

out or in matters not, I’m easy to please.

Cuddling under a blanket to watch a movie, falling asleep by nine

or dressed to kill and going out to our favorite place for wine;

kisses are always good, but especially on this day

of course, the words ‘I love you’ are important to say.

A special card that says it all in ways we frequently forget

reminds us both every year how glad we are we met.
