Heart over Head

We wrapped ourselves in the word friendship

like a toddler's favorite nap time blanket

Secure in the idea that it protected us from feeling,

...More

We danced around the obvious attraction

and used fleeting romances as a welcome distraction

Convinced that time would rid us both

of the awkwardness

You kissed me once, with hesitation

It was a strange sensation..

And all at once I was head over heels

and heart over head.

I started to open my mouth to speak,

Aware that the words were just out of reach

As you stared at me blankly and shrugged nonchalantley,

I chastened my tounge-

A gesture that haunts me

And this was the starting, but not quite the end-

Unrequited "More..."

wrapped up in a friend.
