Autumn Leaves

Falling, Autumn leaves,

for most the journey is brief,

wind-swept from the branch

downward to asphalt streets.

Some glide down performing flights of fancy -

acrobatic feats a squirrel would envy.

Others are blown sideways riding a current,

landing on lawns thickening leafy carpets.

The remainder are coupled,

whirled into a cyclonic ballroom

in performance of the Viennese waltz,

twirling, twirling, twirling.
