Static

Fear, regret, loathing, sadness

Like static on our station of life

Leave us exhausted in madness

Wearing thin our nerves in strife

We believe in what we could have been

Ashamed and lost in an uncommitted sin

We forget our value and turn away

From those that love us everyday

Stroll down Manhattan and between every blink

Is an array of suicidal corporate slaves on the brink

Down to the sunset strip, billboard blondes singing the blues

Teasing a crowd of big panthers with nothing to gain and all to lose

They all think they'll live the dream

With that last dance or last scheme

But in the end the illusion wins

Another soul spotted with sins

I knew a woman that gave it away

(But not the way you'd think today)

She gave to the poor, the weak and young

And never thought of herself before anyone

And you'd think she was sad because no one she helped was grateful

She was happy because she was true to herself and always stayed faithful

The ones that should fear the most are the ones that only think of saving their skin

They look behind their shoulder worrying about a bruise or scrape they might get again

Not to say you should live life in a hurry

Or never think about yourself or worry

But God says live unselfishly and think what you can give not lose

And live with others that do the same; be careful who you choose

There's too much static that could ruin the most beautiful song

If you listen to it you won't hear the melody or words before long

Hypnotized by a stream of static on the black screen

You'll join the masses in an early grave

Fixed on the lines as if there's something they mean

Don't let static take you as his new slave
