Selective Blindness

The 2016 election war

Split times between "after" and "before"

Above all the thing that brought us here

May have been our people's fear

Of change, of difference, and the new

The other, scapegoats, changed worldview

Fear was channeled through a man

With orange skin and "huge" hands

We laughed at him and didn't take

Him seriously until it was too late

Rose colored glasses tainted our view

Of the country we thought we knew

Privilege colors what we see

We hide from racism and misogyny

Of course I use the royal "we"

While I was blind, others could see
