Continuing studies show that when asked 94% of people self-report as being above average. As this is statistically impossible, explain this phenomena. No rhyming.

The Self-Serving Bias

This 94% of the population can easily be explained by the self serving bias. What is the self serving bias, you may ask? Well, my friends, this is the concept that people display a tendency to perceive themselves in a positive light, a light that may at times be brighter than they deserve. They attribute their victories to their own personal merit and their failures to anyone or anything that happens to not be themselves. But do not be mistaken by thinking that these are the acts of a self absorbed ego because that is not the case at all. The self serving bias is merely a survival instinct developed with eons of evolution, designed as a defense mechanism for our self-esteem. Self-esteem is what makes us believe in ourselves, to believe that we have the ability to make an impact on the world around us. It gives us the strength to build inventions, to create beautiful works of art, to cure diseases. Without self-esteem, humanity would never have had the ability to persevere, to fight, to love, to do all the things that define us as human beings. Taking it away would result in the loss of the spark that drives us, the spark that gives us the passion to change the world as we know it. So if the self-esteem package has to come with a dollop of arrogance, I will happily take the whole lot.
