Bereft

Raindrops were splattered

On my window that day

The day they brought you

To your final home

A somber procession

A priest at the head

Three on each side

And a long train

Of cloaked followers aft

Looking through the pane

I could feel the dirt turn

To mud beneath their feet

Their desperate attempts

Not to slip and

Let you fall

Battling the elements

As well as their hearts

But I could not see

Through the pain

And so I did not go

Merely noticed the drops

Like hearts

That fell from the skies
