Desperation

The palace sat high atop the cliffs, its marble towers glowing in the light of the full moon. Anwen stared at it through a grimy window, shivering, her confidence long gone. 

"I paid you to steal the book!", shouted the man with a knife at her daughter's throat. "Get movin'!"
