Once upon a time, there was a table that

creaked when skirts collapsed in its chairs and 

stained when wine splashed against its wood.

A table that saw espadrilles, high-heels, clogs,

poorly-stitched sandals, and bare feet.

Men and women ate and drank and laughed and cried;

stains divulging secrets.
