A rusted pole grazes the back of my neck as I lower myself behind a tower of boxes skirted along the empty warehouse. As I start to regain my peace of mind, the remnants of what occurred throughout the day come back to haunt me. Everyone that I have ever loved is now dead, at the hands of these morbid creatures; my mother, her body lying on the pavement, arms two feet away from her resting on the dewy grass, and her face with random pockets of flesh bitten out; my father, also dismembered, with a river of blood trailing upward from the rest of his body; lastly, my baby brother.... My throat tightens, as though caught in a drawstring, and tears push against the rims of my eyes. The image of my brother wills them to spill over. My palms rest against my drenched face, as I beg God to answer me why he chose to spare my life instead of theirs.
