On the fan; on its drone

Try to listen; try to focus

They have a plan; they'll make you hone

In on the unpleasantries

The thoughts that seek debate

They poke about obtrusively

A civil war - a gap is bait

In unguarded spaces, they enter and prod

Man down! Man down!

Regret and Abandonment relentlessly trod

Fear and Unknown envelop and squeeze

Reason is engulfed

It must surrender or it must flee

Resentment feels no need for stealth

I choke on Irrationality

I identify with Defeat

Am I to blame, Causality?

Or shall I blame Circumstances; blame Genes for my retreat?

I need the drone - to calm; to settle

A base camp of renewal

But their soldiering is impeccable

An immensely uneven duel

I indulge in Pity; I wander around Unfairness

I make no attempt to defend

Am I struck by the emotions or purely the awareness

That I'm overcome by fears I can't comprehend?

Tiredness rolls in as I battle the Thoughts

With sleep as my ally, I grapple with Calm

I welcome tiredness - undeserved - had I fought?

Calm tugs and it struggles but I'm suddenly re-armed

I listen; I focus

On the fan; on the drone
