THE IDOL.

Brown, proud and flawless,

wordless and passionless,

you stand on the shelf,

on the pedestal I built for you-

an idol in the christian house

Curved polished and oiled

primed and perfect,

you came to my life

A goddess to who I offer

My first and my last prayer.

Serene and silent,

You stand on your pedestal,

aloof and alone

Too high above the tears I shed

for the love that was not

too far beyond the reach of arms

that rise in mute prayer

and beg to be released

From the hold

of eyes too blind for tears

And heart too stern

For pity.

INTERPRETATION.

The poem is about praise for beauty, although the persona in these poem is crying for their lover who left them, simply the poet is trying to pass out the theme of beauty through praising their loved ones.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness; but still will keep a bower quiet for us.
