Burn Out

I roll ash between finger and thumb.

And breathe our destruction in tar coated lungs.

A spark was ignited.

And we fed the flames.

But you couldn't handle the heat.

And fled in shame and defeat.

Now,

I stand alone in this wasteland,

With soot covered hands,

From digging through the destruction.

Ankle deep in ash,

There is no salvation in these charred remains.

Only pain.

For I knew you couldn't handle the flames.

And I have only my blackened heart to blame.
