A Saved Nightmare

I open my eyes and quickly close them hoping that when I emerge this will all have been a dream

I open again in fear and see that I am still staring at the road hanging from my seatbelt unable to move

Country music eerily plays in the background as I stare at the broken glass and look at the airbags that block me from seeing the outside world

I realize I am alone

I see my phone dangling from the cord I grab it and call my mom hoping she will tell me it was all a dream

“It was just a nightmare, go back to sleep”

She doesn’t answer

Have I died?

I begin to panic and scream… asking if anyone can hear me

A voice responds

I cling to it asking for help

She says they are on the way

But I cannot help but think everything I have ruined

She tells me it will all be okay

How could she know?

They came and cut the seatbelt that was holding me and I fell into their arms on the stretcher

With disapproving looks I was told I got in a car accident from running a red light

All I wanted to do was switch lanes on a late dark night and when I turned back around from looking in my rearview I saw red and the black and then the broken glass

But I was okay

Just like the lady talking to me on the streets through my airbag said I would be

I looked down thankfully at the cross bracelet on my wrist and rubbed it once more for good luck

I was saved for a purpose

We are here for a purpose

Hold on to what you believe and trust that everything will work out even when you crash...
